Dr. Thomas F. Cannon
Director, Tourism Management Program

Dr. Cannon is an active partner with the San Antonio tourism community. He has served as a City Council appointed Commissioner to the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Commission where he was Chairman of its Budget and Finance Committee overseeing a $14.5 million dollar budget including oversight of the Alamodome and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

He is a the former elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the 250 plus member San Antonio Area Tourism Council and was a member of the Executive Committee of Destination SA which is the City’s first comprehensive strategic plan to grow the tourism industry by an additional $2 billion annually.

Among the diverse research projects that he has served as an investigator are the economic impact on San Antonio of the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp and the Alamo Bowl, the successful date change of the State’s popular Texas Folklife Festival and the business projections and economic assessment for the Dolph and Janey Briscoe Western Art Museum. He is frequently sought out and quoted by the media as to his opinion on tourism related issues.

He also has served as Chairman of the American Marketing Association’s Academic Division’s Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Marketing Special Interest Group and currently serves as Chairman of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Student and Faculty Special Interest Group. Additionally, he currently serves as Chairman of the Destination Marketing Association International Educator and Student Advisory Council (formerly IACVB). Plus, he serves on the Education Committees for both the Texas Travel Industry Association and the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

The College of Business Advisory Council awarded him its coveted Teaching Excellence Award and he was twice a finalist for the University Life Awards Most Outstanding Faculty Member and a finalist for Most Outstanding RSO Faculty Advisor. He has been honored three times by the UTSA’s Ambassadors with their Amber award for “outstanding contribution and service to students” and has been selected to Who’s Who of America’s Teachers.

His Bachelor and Master degrees were earned at Western Michigan University and he was awarded his Doctorate from South Texas College of Law, in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Bojanic is the co-author of two books in hospitality and tourism marketing: Hospitality Marketing Management and Hospitality Sales: Selling Smarter. A prolific researcher, his articles continue to be published in top tourism journals such as the Journal of Travel Research, Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, and Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing. He also serves on the editorial review board for three tourism and hospitality academic journals.

His consulting expertise has been sought by such tourism and hospitality organizations as the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, Smuggler’s Notch Resort, Marriott International, Sentosa Leisure Group, and the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association.

He earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree, in Marketing, from the University of Kentucky and specializes in tourism and hospitality marketing; a Master of Business Administration degree from James Madison University and his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Pennsylvania State University.
